Below is a reprint of an article posted by James W. Rawles on www.Survivalblog.com detailing a letter he received from a friend who was living for several winters in the Alaska Wilderness. 

I took the liberty of summarizing his "lessons learned" from his experience but also have copied the entire letter to give you a context of how and why he learned these lessons as well as to give you a "feel" for what living in the wilderness would be like.  Remember the lessons and enjoy the reading."

Wasser in Alaska

Viele glauben ja, in Alaska ist die Natur recht sauber, besonders auch das Wasser, aber dem ist natürlich nicht so. Nicht nur Giftreste durch geschmolzenes Eis, sondern viele Krankheitserreger durch Tiere kommen ins Wasser.

Although Alaska has many lakes and rivers, the Alaska Department of Natural Resources cautions that much of the surface water in Alaska is contaminated with giardia, and organism which is carried by beavers and other mammals. Giardia causes intestinal upset, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fatigue. Snow banks, especially in summer, may also be contaminated with giardia. To prevent this illness it is important to boil drinking water for at least two minutes. An alternative treatment is to disinfect the water with chemical purification tablets (carried as part of the emergency kit), or to use a small, portable water filter which filters out everything down to 5 microns in size. "

Der deutsche Contractor

Nach einem langen Gespräch mit einer Auftraggebergruppe über deutsche Contractors habe ich einige erstaunliche Dinge erfahren. Diese Gruppe vergibt schon seit vielen Jahren gute Aufträge und bezahlt wirklich fair, besonders in der heutigen Zeit. Zuverlässigkeit steht hier ganz oben.
Warum ist es also so schwer, einen guten Job zu bekommen?

Einerseits, weil es zu wenig gute Jobs gibt, andererseits, weil den Auftraggebern das Auftreten der Bewerber absolut nicht gefällt.

Im Detail wurde folgendes gesagt:

Fremdsprachenkenntnisse sind oft nicht ausreichend. Eine professionelle Kommunikation ist teilweise nicht möglich.

Es fehlt an professioneller Disziplin. 

Überheblichkeit und Arroganz bei deutschen Contractors.

Bei offiziellen Anlässen: schlecht sitzende Anzüge, mangelnde Umgangsformen, fehlende Etikette.

Muskelshirt und die Zuschaustellung voll tätowierter Arme etc. passt nicht in unser gewünschtes Erscheinungsbild. Es erinnert mehr an eine "militärische Tattoo Convention".
Besonders bei der Teamvorstellung oder der Vorstellung unserer Mitarbeiter legen wir besonders viel Wert auf das äußere Erscheinungsbild.

Bärte sind ok, aber sie sollten gepflegt sein.

Die Nachfrage gestaltet ja bekanntlich auch da das Angebot, so ist es natürlich auch bei Wildnistourer. Die über 30 jährige Erfahrung in der internationalen Sicherheits-, und Expeditionsbranche ist mehr denn je gefragt.

Stand bisher der Freizeitbereich bei Wildnistourer im Vordergrund, geht es nun wieder zurück in den militärischen, bzw. sicherheitstechnischen Bereich.
